A man and woman serving time in prison for the murder of a woman they met at a Mississippi casino, now may be linked to a series of murders of prostitutes at truck stops across the country due to a tip authorities received from a relative of the man.
John Robert Williams and Rachel Cumberland were convicted in the death of Nikki Hill of Shuqualak, MS, who they met at a casino. Williams, a long-haul truck driver, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Cumberland, who rode with Williams in his truck, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received 20 years.
No one had connected the two to a string of truck-stop murders, until "America's Most Wanted" aired a segment on the case of Casey Jo Pipestem. A relative of Williams called the show's 800 number and said the case sounded like one that Williams had bragged to her about.
